Let’s talk a bit about failure. When I look at my current successes, it’s easy to overlook lessons that I’ve learned that have brought me here. I’ve felt like a failure, I think that’s normal. I’ve called myself a failure, and that is also normal. What I realize is that labeling myself a “failure” often lead to a dead end. Progress ceased but I gave up.
Once failure became a character trait, it became a destined outcome. You can’t change personality and character, therefore, failure will always be a part of you. That was the mentality at least, until things clicked. Once I started thinking that a failed task is simply me not having the tools to currently address the issue, things changed. I started to tell myself that I don’t have the capability or knowledge RIGHT NOW. That left room for learning, adapting and growth. That was the key.
Looking outward for the answers instead of looking inward made all the difference for me. So even today, I try to challenge myself and try new things. If it doesn’t work, then I assess the situation and go intro problem solving mode, because at the end of the day it’s not about me, it’s just about my ignorance or approach. These are changeable things, I can make them work eventually. I’ve found much more success by perceiving things through this lens. I hope that you can make that change too!
So tell me, how do you perceive your own failures? How would you like to change in this area? Go the comment section and share the lessons you’ve learned in your journey so far. Cheers to future success!
Warm Regards,
Daniel Badillo, LMHC/LPC
